Reeds is based on a familiar Door County view: that moment on a trail where the trees thin out just enough to reveal water beyond. It’s not a dramatic overlook or a sweeping vista. It’s smaller than that. More personal.
Dawn Richardson painted this piece after a walk near one of the inland lakes of Door County. The light was soft, the wildflowers were in bloom, and the water stayed unusually still. The texture of the piece adds to that feeling of being surrounded: tall grasses, shifting trunks, quiet color tucked into the edges.
It’s a view you don’t photograph, but you remember where you were standing. This piece brings you back to it.
